Local tasks and assembly

TaskRabbit

Furniture assembly, mounting, moving help, and similar tasks in selected US and UK cities. You set an hourly rate. You need the tools and the competence. TaskRabbit takes a fee.

A drill, a tape measure, and folded banknotes on a workbench

Checked 22 September 2026. Figures are ranges, not offers.

Where
Selected cities only, not every town. In the UK that includes London and other large cities. In the US, major metros. Check the city list before you buy tools.
Hours
Tasks come in blocks of a couple of hours, often weekends. Travel between them is unpaid. Do not hold an evening open until a task is confirmed.
Pay
Taskers often cite about $20–50 an hour before fees, expenses, and tax
To start
Signing up is free. You bring tools you are qualified to use. A drill and a level are enough for assembly. Do not take electrical or gas work you are not allowed to do.

Why it is listed

The work is ordinary, local, and paid through the app. There is no franchise to buy.

What you can realistically expect

IKEA assembly is the usual first job, and it is slower than you think. The hourly rate has to cover the drive and a wrong-size screw.

Who pays you

The client pays in the app. You are paid after the task. A client who wants to pay cash and “tip extra” is also skipping the insurance cover.

How to start

  1. Apply on taskrabbit.com and pick a city they actually serve.
  2. Choose one category you have done in your own home.
  3. Set a rate that includes travel, not just the time on the tools.
  4. Photograph nothing in a client’s home for your own marketing without asking.

Read this before you start

  • Lead sites that charge you per enquiry are a different product. Do not confuse them with TaskRabbit.
  • If a task needs a licence you do not have, decline.
  • Registration or background steps should happen on the official app.
